Why do you think there are high teenage pregnancy rates?

Basically, what is causing these high rates? What is causing all of the teens to have sex and become pregnant? Also how do you view teenage pregnancy? Do you feel that we, as a society, should be doing something to combat this, and if so what?Why do you think there are high teenage pregnancy rates?
Dear Sister, you have asked a very accurate question. The thing is that as compared to the past, viewing of pornographic videos and magazines has shot up eversince the dawn of the satellite era of television. A lot of chat shows on television have seemed to justify concepts like';IF YOU A GREAT BODY FLAUNT IT';. There has been an increase in fashion shows on television which surprisingly show young girls doing a ramp just in their BARE ESSENTIALS. All these factors have contributed towards raising the libido of the new generation to a point where ONE NIGHT STANDS have become an in-thing among youngsters today. Even those companies manufacturing condoms are advertising it from the youngsters point of view thus making pre-marital sex seem easy. Undoubtedly sex is a basic necessity of human beings but one should understand that sex is one of the many needs of a human being and not life. It is high time that the new generation learns to life with right values and not buy into the hype created by the merciless media and unethical businessmen.Why do you think there are high teenage pregnancy rates?
Hmm... this is just my opinion....

Ok, whats causing these high rates? Girls and guys not knowing how to keep their legs shut. There was a girl in my class a few years back, she has JUST turned 16 and was pregnant, for the SECOND time! Come on!

What causes them to have sex and become pregnant? They don't know how to say no.

(My view above is mainly with the girls from my school. I knwo many teenage girls who are not like that above at all, but many I know are. I just wanted to vent a bit because that just bugs me.)

I view teenage pregnancy as a problem. Kids are robbed of their childhood because of one mistake they made. They just wanted that one night of fun, but it turned into hundreds of sleepless nights, TONS of dirty diapers and many headaches and migranes.

Society can make a HUGE difference. For example, if people would stop making such a big deal about Jamie Spears, people who want attention wouldn't think to get pregnant to get that attention. People wouldn't say ';Its okay, that Spears girl is pregnant.'; Also, if commercials would stop being so sexually oriented, I think there would be less of a problem. Or if people would stop targeting kids when it came to alcohol and stuff like that.
lack of education. we should be educating these kids in safe sex. if they knew more about disease, pregnancy, and birth control there would be a lot fewer pregnant teens. also, they should be able to get birth control without parental consent. so many parents don't want their kids to know about birth control, but their kids are having sex anyway.
more kids are havng sex at a yunger age without knowing it can cause babys.

alot of this is caused bay a breakdown in parents involvement with their kids, they had em and send em out to let the world educate or kill em.

cold hard facts but true. kids so uninformed they eat poision cause its gotta picture of pirate on the can.

its a miracle we made it thru the 60s and 70s with out all the warnings on products?
Well, I think we should fight against it because of the curiosity that young people have and so many teens are dropping out because of children. More education on gender differences as well as safe sex education will help with this. It's like telling a child not to throw a rock into a window without mentioning the consequences. Let's say you have a son and your son picks up a rock and motions like he is going to throw it at a window. If you just say, ';Son, don't' throw that rock into the window'; and leave it, he's probably just going to do it anyway or will do it later to see what will happen, but if you say, ';Son, if you throw that rock into the window, the people in that house are going to be mad and I will have to pay a lot of money for their window..money that I could be using to buy you ';inserttoyhere'; for Christmas/your birthday!';
From my experience, teens have no facts to work with. There are questions on here about sperm dying the minute it touches the air, or how can I make my breasts grow, what is a menstrual cycle, what does birth control do, can I get pregnant if the rubber breaks.....?????? Teens need facts, answers so they can make an informed decision about needing to see a doctor, or if what's happening to their bodies is normal. They know so very little that they discuss things with their friends who don't know any more than what they do, so they guess. Many living in terror. It's really sad. Most sex ed. in school is just don't have sex.

peace
