The cultural difference between East and West shows itself here quite well. Speaking for Japan, (because I am not familiar with Korea, North or South) the concept of individualism or independence is not as strong as one would have in the western countries like the United States. In Japan, it is more of a community or interdependence based society. If one does something wrong, it not only reflects badly upon the person who did the ';misdeed';, but also the family, friends, and coworkers. Parents, for example, are extremely important to most of the people in Japan as the child realizes just about from birth that the parents are always there for the child. In many households, the children sleep with the parents - always contact - always nearby. Communication between parent and child is constant - talking and singing, for example. Therefore, since the parents are so vital to the child, why would the child do ANYTHING which would shame the parent? Therefore, low unmarried pregnancy rates are more the norm than in the United States and some other countries in the west.





This is NOT a condemnation of western culture, but merely a statement of Japanese culture.





By the way, the comments read about people killing their babies, etc., is pretty much fabrication. Japan is not a barbaric country. Abortion is also very low because, again, the shame issue comes to bear upon the situation. While there are about 127 million people in Japan, it is a very ';close-knit'; society and sense of community is vibrant. Therefore, word gets around. Many people know other people. It has a ';small-town'; atmosphere in that sense, even if the Tokyo region, as an example, has more than 25 million people.

There's no moral stigma to abortion in Japan. They have entire shrines dedicated to aborted babies. Their teens aren't exactly angels.





Actually, most of their prostitutes are around 14 - it's a really, really big problem there. Women are considered ';old'; in their early 20's and children are pretty perved on.





I have no idea about South Korea.
because they kill there kids when there dont do as told, and if they do endd up pregnant they probley dont report it to the government
