Why does HGH make you taller in teenage years but not later?

Hi,

How come HGH makes you taller in adolescent years, but not when you are older? Would someone in their mid 20's getting an HGH injection grow taller?

RyanWhy does HGH make you taller in teenage years but not later?
HGH is only part of the equation. Your body is genetically designed to grow to a specific height or more specifically within a certain range. Once you've past your last growth spirt that's it. Bones only grow when you are young, after that your muscles start maturing. Extra HGH might have some affected but it it's really best for anti-aging and tissue repair and renewal, it's going to grow bone for you although it should help bones repair. Why does HGH make you taller in teenage years but not later?
Because HGH acts off of a specific lobe of the pituitary gland in the brain. When injected with HGH, the pituitary secretes GH, growth hormone to the long bones of the body. Until about the age of 21, usually 18, the bones grow in the region called the epiphyseal plate of a long bone. This is completely regulated by Growth Hormone. And within the pituitary gland, there is a message that clearly says ';Stop'; transmission after a certain age, late teens or early 20s that literally seals the epiphyseal plate shut.

So as long as the epiphyseal plate is shut, the injections of HGH will have no affect on it at all. HGH doesnt activate the plate, it activates the release of GH. Until scientists figure out how to unseal the plate in long bones, we will have to only grow taller via medical manipulation during adolescence.
